3 simple steps to personal or professional growth
A simple weekly exercise that will help you grow, meet your goals, and create a game plan for the future
Most of us can't remember what we had for breakfast yesterday; how can we be expected to remember all our victories and challenges? So this week's blog is a short and simple exercise that I've used for years. I call it the 3-2-1 Grow Program.
I usually do this on Saturday or Sunday morning, spending about 15-30 minutes going through my highlight reel for the week. Of course, it looks a lot like the old TV Show called the Wide World of Sports, with both the thrills of victory and the agonies of defeat!

Here is the formula
3 - Things I did well
Here, I write out the 3 big things that I did well. Those victories can be from various sources: closing a new deal, helping a friend or family member, or adding value to someone. I also try to reflect on why I think it went well. Maybe it was that little bit of additional research I did on the company before my presentation, or I felt the connection I needed with the team. It's always nice to know that we did a good job, and determining why is also essential.
Most of the personal and professional development programs we read into all tell us to celebrate our victories. The 3-2-1 method is a great way to record them. They are fresh in your mind, and you get to relive that thrill of accomplishment as you record them. Even if it is just for a moment.
2 - Things I struggled with
This is the agony of defeat area. Here I document what I did wrong or a process that may need correcting. So often, I find myself writing things like; I shouldn't have said this or that to my wife, I didn't meet my prospecting goal for the week, or my Accounts Receivables are out of control.
A key point in this section relates to goal setting. As I review my goals, I look for things that may have stood in my way of reaching them or slowed me down? Then, I try to pull them out of this self-analysis and create an action plan to overcome it in the future.
But again, my action plan is 'keep your mouth shut, because it's often enough something stupid I said to my wife!
1 - Key Learning
This is where I write out one key thing or lesson I learned. I find these in the podcasts I listen to, blogs and books I read, or in situations with customers and clients.
This section's main objective is to document what I learned and how I can use it and turn it into an advantage later on. If you learned a valuable lesson about investing in the stock market, how can you use it to help you meet your financial goals?

You have 13 entries in this diary at the end of a quarter. As you re-read through those entries, you can identify if you are making the same mistakes or have failed to use those new ideas.
