#344: What will you be thankful for next year?
Are you surprised by what you are grateful for this year?
This week, we celebrate Thanksgiving here in the United States. Many of us will gather around the dinner table and give thanks and express gratitude for the things we have. If you think about your blessings this year, are you surprised by what you are grateful for? If so, that begs me to ask a question or two.
Could you do something today that would screw up your life? Could you make a mistake or a decision big enough to alter your life negatively?
This is a straightforward question; not many would dare to say no. It’s simple. You could quickly derail your life by doing something foolish or even dangerous. For example, you could mortgage your entire fortune and play it on black at the Casino. Or, if you are foolish, you could take that money and put it on the Bears to win the Super Bowl this year. One simple deliberate decision, and your life would be altered.
Here is the second question:
If we all agree that it is possible that one single decision could negatively affect our lives, what single act or decision could you make today that would have a positive impact on your life?
We may not control our fate, but we control much of what happens to us. It’s like my slogan: hard work today to improve your tomorrow; what will you do today to help your tomorrow? How will you pursue your dreams, your goals, your happiness? What big things do you want to do? When will you take that first step?
Put yourself around the dinner table precisely one year from now, and imagine what you want to be thankful for. Imagine being grateful for that decision that altered your life’s course, business, or team.
So, what is it? What do you want to be thankful for next year? You have 365 days to make it happen, starting today.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, and have the beginnings of a blessed holiday season.
