Example of leadership in action - “Let’s Go Campbell”
I need to confess and get this out there in case you don’t know.
I am a Lions Fan. A 22-year Season Ticket Holder.
Have not missed a home game in person since November 2004.
Have not missed a play on TV, radio, or in person since 2001.
There hasn’t been too many times in the last 22 years that I could use them as an example for leadership - until now.
Why is this a leadership example this week?
It is as simple as this; “say what you’ll do, then do what you say”. He stayed the course through this difficult year. He knew he had no talent, what did he do? He ended the year better than he started and that is what he said he was going to do. He didn’t promise a championship, he promised that he would start building one.
Putting 2 wins on the board against playoff teams (Green Bay, Arizona), tying another one (Pittsburgh) and keeping one out of the playoffs (Vikings), with a very sub-par talented team says more to leadership than it does to playbooks and schemes.
Dan Campbell - Detroit Lions Head Coach (3-13-1 Rookie Season) - although winning is everything in the NFL, the record does not always tell the story.
In case you missed this,
It’s been our most read article this month … Maybe because John Dutton’s definition sounds so much like Washington DC right now?

10 Ways to unwind without hitting the bottle
Whether you’re cutting out drinks or just cutting back, you can keep your spirits up without the spirits.
1. Cue Up a Comedy
Laughing produces gamma waves, the same high-frequency brain waves generated during a solid meditation session, according to research from Loma Linda University in California. And the anticipation of a laugh can reduce stress hormones. Start with Seth MacFarlane’s Star Trek spoof The Orville: New Horizons.
2. Play Pickup
You may not miss the booze, but you’ll probably miss the bar. So round up some fit friends and/or coworkers and schedule a weekly run, pickup basketball game, or lifting session. These activities don’t require a ton of people to be enjoyable (unlike pickup baseball or kickball) and allow time for what makes bars so great: conversation.
3. Do Things on Your Own
You’ll do yard work and grocery shopping alone—so why not the fun stuff? Researchers have found that people who go to the movies, see a concert, or visit an art gallery solo experience mental-health benefits similar to those of people who go in groups. Sounds like an excuse to treat yourself to a nice dinner.
4. Rock Out
Chills from your top workout song signal that your brain is pumping out dopamine, a pleasure chemical also released by alcohol. Get more workout tracks from Men’s Health on Spotify.
5. Have a Soak
Try a different kind of liquid refreshment. Study participants with depressive symptoms who took a warm bath for 30 minutes felt better than those who did about 45 minutes of aerobic exercise, German researchers found. Yes, taking a bath is a whole ordeal, but hey, it’s good for you.
6. Write Things Off
Anxious times can make the mind run wild. Reach for a pen instead of a drink, says Freddie Bennett, a former drinker who’s now an ultrarunner and a host of the podcast Over the Influence. “Scribble nonstop for ten minutes. You’ll get all that random shit out of your head and maybe discover why you were anxious in the first place.”
7. Cook Some Different Meals
If you’ve ever felt satisfied by pulling off a new recipe, researchers get you. A study in The Journal of Positive Psychology found that people who frequently take on small, creative challenges—like cooking a meal they haven’t before—report feeling content and relaxed. Check out 31 ways to stir up some contentment.
8. Remix Your Schedule
Most people have a predictable drinking routine, so note the moments when you’re most likely to reach for a glass, says Dru Jaeger, a cofounder of the mindful-drinking group Club Soda, and then prebook another event on those days and at those times. If you tend to chase the Sunday Scaries with a cold one and TV, try a FaceTime with family. It’ll spare you the added stress of practicing self-control.
9. Get Some Real Sleep
Even one drink can leave you with that morning-after fog and slight headache. So instead of a nightcap, order up that good rest you keep saying you need. Gradually shift your sleep-wake times; aim for 10:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. That way, you’ll have a use for your newfound energy: hitting the gym, going for a run, or cooking a healthy breakfast.
10. Go Back
Nostalgia is a powerful intoxicant, a study in the journal Emotion found, and the feeling made participants perceive air temperatures as warmer and more comfortable. Rewatching favorite movies also provides “emotional regulation,” according to research out of American University. When was the last time you watched the Rocky collection?
