My degree is from AU - Automobile University
How you spend your idle time makes all the difference in the world
For nearly 40 years, this was the view from my office. Over 1 Million car miles, and 3+ million air miles, I had my fair share of windshield time.
During the first several years it was nothing but pounding out sales calls, one after another. Looking at maps, and listening to talk radio. Then I heard the term “automobile university” in a Zig Ziglar seminar I went to. And it changed my world.
This was before cell phones and Audible.com. Well before podcasting, and Sirius radio. Books on cassette tape was the way to learn. And learn I did.
No more excuses get your degree from Automobile University
With today’s technology, there is no reason each of us do not have the equivalent of a Masters Degree. Everything you want to watch, listen to, or read is in your hand at all times. Do you want to listen to a motivational speaker? Learn how to use excel better? Find out more about the Civil War? It’s all there - and the vast majority of it is FREE.
In Tuesday’s Blog I wrote about skill stacking. Isn’t this a great way to do that?
What will you accomplish this year? Put a plan together to use this windshield time wisely.
Here is a trick to double up your learning. With Audible and Podcasting, you can learn to listen at 2x’s speed (depending on the author, I have listened at up to 3x’s speed). That means in a 15-minute commute to your office, you can listen to 30-45 pages of a book. With 2 commutes a day, that is just under a 100 pages. And on average, that is a book a week. Haven’t you heard the top 10 songs enough by now?
At the Kole Performance Group, we can help you draft your plan and graduate from Automobile University!
If anyone wants to share, when you have time in the car (more than 10 minutes for example) what podcast or books are you currently listening too?
