Billionaires Share this One Thing in Common
67% of today’s billionaires have earned their first billion in one generation! Of the current Forbes 400 list, 228 of them started either poor or middle class. They didn't inherit businesses or anyone else's fortune. (Forbes)
When people ask if the American Dream is still possible - I emphatically respond “Yes!” I point to the above fact, and I am determined that the main question is how (not if) can we achieve the American Dream?
Copy Good Behavior
If others have done something successful, copy how they did it! Don’t try to re-invent the wheel. Here are the questions that you want to get answers to:
How did these 228 Billionaires overcome obstacles?
How did they move from poor to successful?
What can be learned from their journey?
What can I do in order to have a similar success?
Of these 228 individuals, one thing is common when asked how they did this. It is also a common theme from many studies on personal growth over the years. A Harvard study followed a group of individuals for over 50 years. They came from all socio-economic backgrounds, races, different parts of the country, and dozens of other independent variables. The common theme for the most successful of this group was the same. They all did this one step:
They set goals
They pictured themselves in the future, removed and worked around the numerous obstacles they had. They wrote these goals down, along with an action plan to achieve them. They did something every day to improve their happiness, health, career, or knowledge.
I am not going to say that all goals can be met, there are many of “life happens” events that can get in the way. However, I can guarantee you one thing;
“The tragedy of life doesn’t lie in not reaching your goals. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach” - Benjamin Elijah Mays
